The Challenge: Breaking the “Traditional” Ceiling
Batik is often viewed through a lens of formality or “costume.” YeoMama Batik came to the table with a mission to flip that script. Established in 2018, the mother-daughter duo wanted to transform an ancient craft into a vibrant, inclusive, and “everyday” lifestyle brand. The challenge was to honor the painstakingly handmade artistry of Indonesian artisans while making the brand feel fresh, quirky, and accessible to a diverse range of body shapes and ages in Singapore and beyond.
1. Brand Philosophy & Positioning
We helped define the “YeoMama Voice”—a blend of motherly warmth and daughterly daring. The brand isn’t just about clothing; it’s an inclusive celebration of culture. We positioned YeoMama Batik as the definitive bridge between traditional craftsmanship and modern self-expression, encapsulated in the battle cry: “Be Batikfully Yeoself.”
2. Visual Identity: Tradition with a Twist
To match their “effortlessly fun” ethos, the visual system needed to be high-energy but structured.
Color Strategy: We embraced a “More is More” approach, creating a framework where vibrant batik motifs could coexist with contemporary typography without clashing.
Inclusivity by Design: The branding emphasises that YeoMama is for every body. We ensured the visual language felt welcoming and high-fashion simultaneously, moving away from the “boutique” stereotype to a more “vibrant community” feel.
3. Elevating the Craft
Under the Strategic Brand & Marketing Development pillar, we worked to ensure that the “Handmade” story was front and center.
The Deliverables: We developed a brand narrative that educates the consumer on the difference between “printed” and “authentic” batik (Cap, Canting, and Handscreen), justifying the premium value and supporting the artisan communities.
Omnichannel Consistency: From their vibrant studio in Marymount to their global digital storefront, we ensured the “YeoMama energy” remained consistent and contagious.
Inclusive Growth: Successfully expanded their range to include menswear, kids, and babies, proving that batik is truly “for all.”
Global Recognition: Established as a key player in Singapore’s design landscape, often cited for their successful “modernisation” of heritage.
Community Equity: Built a loyal tribe of customers who don’t just wear the clothes, but share the brand’s values of authenticity and body positivity.
